Boston Area NICU Photography

What I wish we had were photos from when she was still little and in the hospital... but it just felt taboo.

Some parents know that their baby is going to be in the NICU and for some it is a complete shock. Whatever your situation, you deserve to have beautiful newborn photos to celebrate the arrival of your child. As a NICU nurse I often tell my patient's parents to take as many photos and videos of their baby as they can- they don't stay little long. But now I want to do more by offering them a completely complimentary photo session for professional family photos in a setting that is safe for their newborn.

You deserve newborn photos

Disclaimer

Although I am trained as a NICU nurse, when hired as a photographer I am in no way functioning in a healthcare role- no matter the setting. I will not be able to give any information or advice regarding your child's health nor will I be able to provide any care or handling outside that which your NICU team deems to be appropriate. I would also like to note that these sessions are offered as a volunteer program through my own business. I am not a nonprofit, I am not affiliated with a charity, nor am I offering these sessions as any sort of collaboration with any hospital the photos may be taken in.

Qualifications

  • Have infants that are currently admitted to a NICU or SCN (and who will be inpatient at the time of the photoshoot)

  • Have infants who have been or will be admitted for 3 weeks or longer

These sessions are offered to families who…

What my experience as a NICU RN means for your photoshoot…

Your family's photoshoot will be centered around the safety and developmental requirements of your infant. I am trained to recognize the signs of overstimulation and stress in a neonate and will monitor your infant to ensure they are tolerating the photo session well. There will be no flash used and no loud or startling noises. I have education and knowledge of the equipment that your infant is likely to be using and will be able to work around these items without disturbing your child's care.

As I stated in my disclaimer above, I will not be able to perform ANY nursing cares for you or your baby. I will, of course, call for the NICU staff to come and assist us if I feel that something is concerning. I will not be able to turn off, disconnect, or silence any of your child's medical equipment. Finally, while I can help position your infant by adjusting their hands, feet, or head I will not be able to assist in the transfer or complete repositioning of your baby.

and what it does not mean.

What to expect:

Your photoshoot will be lifestyle based. This means that there will be no fancy backdrops, props, or poses that we will be positioning your child with or in. Your baby is delicate and our goal is simply to capture your family as you are in this period of life. I will take photos of your baby in their crib or isolette; photos of you performing cares for your baby (diaper changes, bathing, hair combing, etc); and photos of you holding your child if they are able to tolerate it.

Following the photoshoot I will edit all of your images and send you an online gallery that you are free to download and share with whoever you like- free of charge.

faqs

  • No, these inpatient NICU sessions are offered entirely free of charge

  • If your child has an event either prior to your shoot or during your session I will make every effort to reschedule you for another time when it is safe for your baby.

  • If you decide that you would like to schedule a NICU photoshoot for you and your baby I will send you a questionnaire which includes the option to opt in or out of your images being used on my website, in blog posts, or on my social media. The choice is entirely yours.

  • By me? Unfortunately no. My work schedule does not allow the on call flexibility needed for birth photography. However, I am happy to point you in the direction of someone who offers that.

If you would like to move forward with scheduling your photoshoot please fill out this form and I will be in touch with you to gather more information and guide you through the next steps. Congratulations on your growing family and I can't wait to help you make memories of your new arrival!
